Cultural

Montessori children have an early understanding of the concept and names of continents, countries, and states around the world. The Montessori method utlises coloured maps to help with this.

The aim is to learn about the various cultures and what they offer. Pictures, stories, facts about different countries, and a variety of other learning opportunities are made available at Montessori schools and pre-schools to provide the child with a real sense of the world and how countries are different.

An in-depth cultural curriculum is implemented in subsequent years. Montessori children begin to learn about the capital states and governments. As per usual, the Montessori teacher is present to guide different aspects for the child to look into and research instead of having to be the sole source of information.

An emphasis on enjoying and appreciating other cultures is an integral part of the Montessori cultural curriculum. A Montessori child has the freedom to develop their interest in geography and increase it to a wide range of learning opportunities in different areas.

For example, a Montessori child can study the history of a city such as early settlers and the natural surroundings that led to the city’s development. The growth rate of the area in different time periods can be included and presented as a in the form of a graph. The child may include math, science, history, and geography in one cultural lesson.

The possibilities of what a Montessori child takes interest in are endless.
